How to Login without Password (or With Blank Null Password) in Windows XP and Vista Remote Desktop

With Remote Desktop, you can have access to a Windows session that is running on your computer when you are at another computer. This means, for example, that you can connect to your work computer from home and have access to all of your programs, files, and network resources as though you were sitting at your computer at work. You can leave programs running at work and when you get home, you can see your work desktop displayed on your home computer, with the same programs running.

By default, Windows XP and Windows Vista does not allow nor permit user account without password set or user name with blank (null) password to connect and log in remotely via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).

To enable and allow remote desktop you have to create and set a password for the user account that requires to logon remotely to a computer via Remote Desktop, and it’s recommended for security reason too.

How about if you still want to login without (Blank Null) password ? you can use the following tips:

Using Local Security Policy or Group Policy Editor

1. Click Start-> Run then type “GPEdit.msc”
2. Expand Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options
3. Locate Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only policy, and set its value to Disabled.



Once disabled, user account with blank or null passwords can now login remotely instead of just able to do so via local console.

Configure Blank Passwords Allowed for Remote Log On via Registry

Windows XP and Windows Vista stores the value of the policy set above in a registry key named “LimitBlankPasswordUse”. To unlock the limitation of cannot establish Remote Desktop logon with user account without a password, simply set the value data for LimitBlankPasswordUse to "0" (so that there is no limit on blank or null password use)

1. Click Start->Run then Type “regedit”
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Lsa
3. In the right page Locate to “LimitBlankPasswordUse”
4. Double click then give "0" to Value data then Click Ok




5. Do the same step for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

If you want to put back disable Blank Null password in Registry, Simply change "0" Value data to "1".

Follow the tip below:
1. Click Start ->Run-> type “cmd”
2. In the previous article we already have Gokhiel as new user account then type this command
"C:\ net localgroup administrators Gokhiel /add" then Press Enter



Now user Gokhiel can login as administrator

How to Lock your computer when you’re a way for a while from your desk

To help protect your computer, you should log off of it or lock it when you are away. When you log off of your computer, other users can still log on to it. When you lock your computer, however, only you or an administrator can then log on to it. Also, open files and running programs are immediately available to you when you unlock the computer and log back on.

there are some way to lock the computer in Windows XP, you can use one of them

Method 1
1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
2. Click Lock Computer.

Windows displays the Computer Locked dialog box. Your system is now locked, preventing everyone except you or a system administrator from unlocking your system and viewing any open files or programs.

Method 2
• Press the Windows logo key

Method 3
Create a desktop shortcut that will instantly lock your PC
1. Right click on the Desktop then choose “New Shortcut”
2. For the location, enter “rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation”



3. Click Next and give the shortcut an appropriate name


Note : To unlock your computer, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, type your password, and then click OK.

Default password for the Router

In the previous Article I wrote about How to Reset Password on Cisco Router. But maybe you want to try some default password to login to the router before you reset the password.
I found some website which is provide default password not only for the Cisco Router but also another brand such us Linksys, Netgear, D-Link ..etc

This website maintains a large list of default passwords for all kinds of gadgets and electronic devices.

As default printing website page will include extra graphics or images, how about if you need only print the text from the website. printing webpage without images or background colors can speed up your printing process and also save printer ink.

Follow the steps below for print webpage without graphics or images:

1. In your Internet Explorer click Tool->Internet option



2. click the Advanced tab then scroll down to find the option Printing section.

3. Unchecked the option "Print background colors and images" then Apply and press OK button.



4. Colse and Re-open the Internet Explorer to take affect

5. Check the Print Preview before you print, In my experience it only working just one time, after that you have to repeat step 2 by check and uncheck "Print background colors and images". If you have another solution, please leave the comment for this tips..:)

For me, I like using this software because it’s easy to resize a lot of image data. It saving my time then resizes the image manually one by one. Ok, I will show you to resize the image using this software, Follow the steps below:

1. Open FastStone Image Viewer then go to Tools->Open Batch Convert / Rename Dialog




2. Select The Folder where the Image location and click Add All


3. Next,
- Setting where you want to save the output file (Image data after conversion)
- Click “Use Advance Option” . I usually using percentage to resize the image. For this example I resizing the image 20%
- Click Convert



4. Now you can see the different old image size and the new one. It will save your hard drive capacity and easy for you if you want to upload your image data to the website.

How to Repair corrupted files in Microsoft Excel 2007

When you have experience corrupted file in excel, Microsoft Excel provides automatic recovery for a corrupted file by attempting to reopen and simultaneously repair the file.
I write some methods that I usually use when experience with corrupted data in Excel

To manually repair a file
1. On the File menu, click Open.
2. In the Open dialog box, select the file you want to open, and click the arrow next to the Open button.
3. Click Open and Repair, and then choose which method you want to use to recover your workbook.




If you can open the file in Excel
Save the file in SYLK format
Saving the file in SYLK format is typically used to remove printer corruption. If you can open the corrupted Microsoft Excel file, you can "filter" it if you save it in SYLK format, close the file, and then reopen it as follows:
1. On the File menu, click Save As.
2. In the Save as type list, click SYLK (Symbolic Link), and then click Save.



Note: Only the active sheet in the workbook is saved when you use the SYLK file format. Click OK when the message tells you the selected file type does not support workbooks. Click Yes when the message tells you the file may contain features that aren't compatible with the SYLK format.

3. On the File menu, click Close.
4. On the File menu, click Open.
5. Select the .slk file you saved, and click Open.

Note: To see the .slk file, you may need to click All Files in the Files of type list.

6. On the File menu, click Save As.
7. In the Save as type box, click Microsoft Excel Workbook, and then click Save.

Note: Because this format saves only the active worksheet, you must open the corrupted file repeatedly and save each worksheet separately.

If you can't open the file in Excel
Method 1: Set the recalculation option in Excel to manual
1. Start Excel and open a blank workbook if one is not open on the screen.
2. On the Microsot Excel Ribbon click Excel Options



3. Select Formulas in the left hand of the form
4. In the Calculation Options section, click Manual, and then click OK.



5. On the File menu, click Open and try to open the file.

Method 2: Use Hyperlink
1. Start Excel and open a blank workbook
2. Type some word in Excel cell then right click it, select Hyperlink




3. Browse to the corrupted file then Click OK



4. Now try to open the corrupted file using the word link

Windows Firewall help protect your computer by preventing unauthorized users from gaining access to your computer through the internet or a network. Windows recommended to Turn on this feature, but some of the new programs you install on your computer from the Internet or through other media types, you may experience some difficulty or permission issues because of the Windows firewall.
To be able to allow programs through the windows firewall, follow these steps:

Allowing program through the Windows XP firewall

1. Go to Start-> Control Panel->Security Center->Windows Firewall
2. In Windows Firewall form, select Exception tab
you can readily check or uncheck the desired programs you'd like to allow through the firewall. Likewise, you can also check the option for whether or not you want to be notified when a new program is blocked by the Windows firewall.



3. After adding exception, Click OK

Allowing program through the Windows Vista firewall

1. Go to Start-> Control Panel->Security->Windows Firewall
2. In the left hands of the page, Click on Allow a program through the firewall
3. The same as Windows XP setting, select Exception tab
4. After adding exception, Click OK

How to create a system restore point in Windows XP

You can use system restore to undo harmful change to your computer and restore its setting and performance. this feature allows you to roll back the entire operating system to a previously created (called restore point) without causing you to lose recent work such as document data, e-mail or history and favorite site.


Actually as default windows turn on the system restore. You can check in Start->right click on My Computer ->Properties->System Restore tab



Your computer automatically create restore points (called system checked point). but you can create your own restore points if you want to make major change in your system such us installing new program or changing your registry.

How to create your own restore points? Follow the steps below:
1. Click Start-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools, and then click System Restore.
2. Tick mark “create a restore point” and click Next



3. Type restore point description then click Next



4. Now you have new restore point.



5. Done



To restore your system follow the steps below:

1. Click Start-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools, and then click System Restore.

2. Tick mark “Restore my computer to an earlier time” and click Next




3. You can choose available restore point by selecting calendar in bold.



4. In restore point selection page, click next to begin the process. The system will restart and revert to the settings saved in the restore point.



Note :Antivirus utilities can affect whether your system can be restored to a previous point. If a restore point contains an infected file because the utility is not set to clean the file within the restore point, or if an infected file has been removed from a restore point by an antivirus utility because it could not be cleaned, System Restore will not recover the computer to this partial or infected state. If System Restore could not restore your computer to a previous state, and you suspect that one or more restore points contain infected files or have had infected files removed by the antivirus utility, you can remove all restore points from the System Restore archive by turning off System Restore and then turning it back on.

3. Sign in with your Windows Live ID. Login with your Hotmail account will do.
4. Click Label Download the Windows 7 Beta
5. in the next page Welcome to the Windows 7 Beta Customer Preview Program, scroll down your mouse then choose whether you want to download : Windows 7 Beta 32-bit ISO or Windows 7 Beta 64-bit ISO



6. In the next Page you will get Windows 7 product key, Note down the product key and click download.

How to disable automatic restart when PC constantly reset each time you boot

When your computer having an error sometime Windows operating system will restart automatically. It will make you difficult to diagnose the error. The easiest way to solve this problem is to disable automatic restart. This won't solve the problem causing the crash, but it will provide some on-screen information that will help you diagnose the error.

Disable automatic restart in Windows XP

1. Click Start ->Control Panel-> Performance and Maintenance ->System or you can also access this by pressing WINDOWS KEY + PAUSE/BREAK
2. In System Properties page , select Advance Tab-> Click Setting in Startup and Recovery Group Box



3. In Startup and Recovery page untick the Automatically Restart then Click OK





Disable automatic restart in Windows Vista

1. The same as Windows XP you can go to Control Panel -> System -> Advance System Setting or pressing Windows Key + Pause Break



2. In System Properties page , select Advance Tab-> Click Setting in Startup and Recovery Group Box



3. In Startup and Recovery page untick the Automatically Restart then Click OK



Next time you have a crash in Windows system, your PC will not automatically reset and you will be able to view the error message.

How to Backup Windows XP Registry Manually

Do you ever have problem with windows registry? Most of users ever have experiences with registry problem. May be it’s because virus attack, uninstall programs, modifying registry...etc. When registry changes unexpected it will make windows running unstable. It’s recommended to backup your registry to make your computer back to normal.

How to backup the registry? Follow instruction below:


1. Click start->run and type “regedit”
2. In Registry Editor page, Select “My Computer” (ensure that “My Computer' is highlighted



3. Go to File->Export. You need to enter a location to save the exported registry and choose Save as type . reg. See the picture below:



4. Click Save


How to restore the registry?
1. Go to where you save the registry backup file.
2. right clicking it and selecting “Merge”



3. Click yes on confirmation message



4. Restart your computer
